Staying healthy is a vital part of a successful vacation. By following these simple tips, you’ll be able to stay in tip-top shape and create memories that will last a lifetime.

1. Get Enough Sleep

In the excitement of vacation, it can often be easy to stay up past your bedtime. While the occasional late night has its place, falling behind on sleep can weaken your immune system. Getting enough shuteye can be even more important after long flights, where a good rest can often be tricky. Once you get to your destination, prioritizing a good night of sleep can help keep you at your best for the rest of the trip.
2. Use Good Judgement When Dining Out

Experiencing local cuisine is many travelers’ favorite way to get to know a new city. However, in some places, the water might not be safe to drink. If you follow these easy guidelines, you shouldn’t have any trouble:

  • Avoid tap water (including ice made from tap water).
  • Avoid uncooked fruits and vegetables you can't peel.
  • Avoid undercooked meat.
  • If you want to 100% safe, brush your teeth with bottled water.

3. Get Vaccinated

Vaccines are one of the most important ways to prevent illness while traveling in foreign countries. Immunizations can protect against diseases like Yellow Fever, Typhoid, and Japanese Encephalitis.

If you’re traveling to certain areas (like South America or Africa), you may also want to take anti-Malaria medication before, during, and after your vacation. Be sure to speak with a medical professional at least a couple of months before you leave, as some vaccines require multiple doses. If you have any questions, an experienced travel agent can help you determine which vaccines you might need.

4. Keep Moving...

Exercising on vacation might not be your first thought, but keeping up with your routine can help you stay at the top of your game. According to Harvard Medical School, regular exercise can boost your immune system, helping to fight off disease.
Try to keep it simple. You don’t need long or intense workouts to get the benefits. A brisk walk is perfect. Plus, you’ll get the opportunity to explore your destination on foot.

5. ...But Not Too Much

Many tourists race from place to place at warp speed, attempting to see everything as quickly as possible. However, constantly rushing around can stress you out, which is bad for your immune system. One way to make sure you have the perfect itinerary is to work with a travel agent. By getting help from a professional, you can rest assured knowing your trip is perfectly planned, with built-in rest days to keep you fresh.

Nothing is more important than your health. By following the advice mentioned above, you’ll set yourself up for a memorable, stress-free vacation.
