Milan is a truly stunning city, full of historic buildings, incredible art, and chances to experience the rich culture and heritage of Italy. Whether you are on a sight-seeing tour to soak up the art or want to spend time shopping and people-watching, there are opportunities for it all in Milan. Here are six cool things to do when you are on the journey of a lifetime in this fantastic place.
Duomo di Milano
For those enamored with art and architecture, this cathedral is the perfect location to visit. One of the most significant cathedrals in Europe, Duomo di Milano is home to beautiful gothic architecture and stained glass, as well as being a place of incredible spiritual beauty. Services are held daily, and the cathedral is considered the home of privileged prayer. While you are here, you can also check out the famous Piazza del Duomo, a hub of shopping, food, and transportation.

Il Canacolo
A visit to this famous city would not be complete without taking in the spectacle that is Il Canacolo, known around the world as The Last Supper. Created in the 15th century, this stunning mural by Leonardo da Vinci covers a wall at the monastery of Santa Maria delle Grazie. Breathtaking and beautiful, this world-famous art is a must-see on your trip.

Castello Sforzesco
Part castle spectacle, part art museum, the Castello Sforzesco is the ideal spot for walking around the beautiful grounds as well as taking in some fantastic art. The considerable collection is home to work from Michelangelo and da Vinci, as well as housing an impressive Egyptian collection. With very reasonable admission prices, this castle is worth a day trip.

Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II

For those who love to shop until they drop, the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II is the place to visit. Packed with shops, restaurants, and bars, this lively shopping mall is excellent for people-watching and soaking up the vibrant, chic atmosphere of Milan. With a stunning 19th century barrel-vaulted glass-topped tunnel, the center is also incredible to look at.

La Scala Opera
Whether you catch an opera or hear an orchestra take the stage, visiting La Scala Opera is the opportunity of a lifetime. Built in 1778, this opera house has been home to composers such as Rossini, Verdi, and Puccini. The simple exterior belies the elegant and striking interior décor, which offers an intimate theater with superb acoustics, no matter the seats.

Dialogo nel Buio
For a truly unique experience, take in this art exhibition set up at the Instituto del Ciechi in 2005. Described as “an experience that teaches another way of ‘seeing,’” patrons spend just over an hour in total darkness, undertaking a journey which requires them to rely on their other senses. With several rooms to visit, the tour ends in a bar with drinks and snacks for guests to enjoy while they mull over their experiences.
