The "Barbie" Jeeps

When you visit Sedona, it is an excellent base camp for exploring many parts of the Southwest. On vacation, we only had so much time, so we decided to take a guided tour of the Grand Canyon from Sedona.  Our guide, Beau, from Pink Jeep Tours picked us up at our hotel for our journey north. There were about five other guests along on our tour.   At Pink Jeep Tours they offer tours all over Sedona and the Grand Canyon area.  You can take a Pink Jeep out to the red rocks for a fun off-road experience, and they offer luxury customized pink Mercedes Sprinter vehicles just for their more extended tours.  I will share our red rocks Pink Jeep Tour in an upcoming newsletter.
Many of the guides from Pink Jeep offer their perspectives on their tours, and the guides we had were full of knowledge and fun facts. Our guide to the Grand Canyon Beau shares the story of how Pink Jeep became to be. The first question many guests ask is “Why are the Jeeps Pink?” Don Pratt started the company when he was selling real estate in the Sedona area in 1958. He had the jeeps to take clients out to these different real estate properties for sale.  Mr. Pratt used the jeeps because the roads were not developed yet and you needed a sturdier vehicle to get to the properties on the rugged roads. He realized that many of the prospective clients were not very interested in the real estate in the area, but they were having a great time in the rides in the pink jeeps. So he decided to sell his real estate and bought two more jeeps and began Don Pratt’s Adventure Company.  Then he started his jeep tours around Sedona. Then he and his wife went on vacation to Hawaii and stayed in Honolulu at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel.  The Royal Hawaiian is all pink; outside, inside, everything is pink at the property. While he was there, he realized that everyone loved pink and it is a widely recognized color, and it is a lot of fun.  It gave him the idea to paint his jeeps pink, and he went home and did just that, bringing to life Pink Jeep Tours.  Now to this day, there are over to 75 Pink Jeep’s.  Some of the locals in Sedona refer to the jeeps as “Barbie” jeeps which are plentiful for some great adventures.

Pink Jeep offers some great tours to get back into the country of Sedona and the Grand Canyon area, some of which only Pink Jeep has permits to drive on. I would highly recommend all of the tours that Pink Jeep offers.  The guides knowledge and storytelling is an excellent day in the Southwest.
