For the last several weeks, different countries around the world are opening their borders to American travelers. Though many are not yet comfortable traveling during this time, it is encouraging to see countries around the globe adopting procedures to keep travelers and residents safe during this pandemic. Here are a few countries open for travel and the procedures* to travel there and an inspired looked at the many possible experiences during your future trip. Guatemala
The South American country of Guatemala offers a history of the Mayans and the natural beauty set between the Gulf of Mexico and the Pacific Ocean. Guatemala's travel requirements are a negative PCR test done within 72 hours and completion of the Health Pass form found on its official website. If you have a love of chocolate and peanut butter, Guatemala offers the best of both worlds. Experience making your own chocolate while learning how important the cocoa seed was to the Mayan culture. If outdoor adventure is your draw, hike Pacaya Volcano, the highly active volcano. The trail to the volcano summit is approximately a two-and-a-half-hour hike where you will experience a magnificent view of the valley below and the town of Antigua. Then travel to the north of the country to Lake Atitlan. This lake is the deepest in Central America and is as beautiful as Lake Como in Italy but surrounded by immense volcanos. This area has a diverse ecological system of as many as 116 species of reptiles, tropical birds, and amphibians. Whether you want to relax on the water boating or kayaking or learn about the area's ecosystem, there is something for everyone around Lake Atitlan. Costa Rica Costa Rica is opening on November 1st to American travelers. To travel here, you will also need a negative PCR test within 72 hours of departure from the United States. Costa Rica is another diverse country with culture, adventure, and relaxation. Depending on if you want a relaxing beach vacation or an adrenaline-pumping vacation will depend on which part of the country you explore. The cloud forests and rain forests are worth a trip in the evening with an experienced guide. Discover the nocturnal animals that make up the Costa Rican rain forest, from the frogs, bats, and insects that make this a magical evening. If the water calls you, head to Costa Rica’s Gold Coast to experience the crystal clear bays of Guanacaste’s coast. You can take a catamaran to cruise along the coastline to discover sea turtles, dolphins, and whales. If staying ashore is your mood for the day, try some fly fishing or snorkeling in the warm water to find coral reefs and other marine life. The countries of Guatemala and Costa Rica offer so much to travelers. When you feel safe and are ready to begin planning for your future trip, I can help you discover many hidden gems within these countries. *Please note restrictions and requirements are fluid and should be checked before reserving any travel reservations and again before departing.
